Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI v Copford II on Sat 12 Sep 2009 at 12.30pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Only 5 points were needed to assure Bromley of the Div 6 title as they went into their last game of the season, at home to Copford, who themselves required 9 points to remain in the Division.
For old times sake Louis won the toss again but this time opted to bowl first, the thinking being that 10 wickets would be the way to secure the points required, with a back up of our solid batting if that plan went T,s up.
He need`nt worry about that, Even with a stenghtened batting line up, Bromleys bowling unit was way to strong and finished the visitors off within 32 overs. Liam claimed an early scalp to settle the nerves And Billy soon followed to increase the rivalry for leading wicket taker, Liam then Produced a quick ball that Tuckwell couldnt control and top edged to Louis at gully. That was the final wicket taken by either opener, Billy winning the honours with 27 for the season one ahead of Liam.Gould and Rawson were the mainstays of the Copford innings but Matt Wareing got rid of these two before Jake and Nick tidied up the tail.
In reply Tracy produced a couple of cracking deliveries to see off Jordan and Liam early doors but the promoted Matt Halsey and ever reliable Craig calmed things down pushing the the score to 49 before Craig(not wanting Matt to steal his limelight)cold-bloodedly ran Matt out! He thought of doing the same to Simon but thought better of it, these two finishing the job within 15 overs, Craig completed his 11th half century of the season and Simon smashed a quick-fire 34.The champagne (or cheap fizzy wine ) soon flowed.
Congrats also to Achilles who pushed us all the way and deserved their promotion for being in the top 2 all season.

A few foot-notes and stats now that the season is over, In my first year at the club i can say that it has been my most enjoyable by far not because we were so successful (although that helps) but because of the way the team has been captained and because of the spirit this team has in abundance. Louis has made sure everyone gets a fair game and in return everyone has made a valuable contribution to the cause. The spirit can be opitimised by the 3 defeats we suffered, rather than sour grapes given out we have taken it on the chin and come back harder next match. Everyone can feel proud of their achievements.

Craig finished the season with 1159 runs breaking the league record by over 250 and along with Liam who scored 807 runs gave a the team a solid start to most matches. Louis and Jordan both contributed over 400 runs each and there were 2 half centurys each for Jake and Rich. Apart from the batsmen the tail often wagged with the likes of Billy, Matt W, Pete, Andy and even myself chipping in with important runs.
On the bowling front, as i mentioned, Billy and Liam took 53 wickets between them Louis bagged 20, I got 15, Jake 13, Matt Wareing 12 and Andy 11. Of course there are others i havent mentioned but this was definately a team effort and the fielding shaped up nicely as the season developed, with even Matt Wareing aquiring safe hands all of a sudden! The ground fielding is something that maybe can be improved on next year?

Having been involved in youth cricket for a number of years i think i spot a good young player and Bromley are blessed with a few. Matt Wareing has matured as the season`s gone on, Matt Halsey has huge potential,Jake hasnt let his loss of batting form affect his chirpy nature and has real talent. Jack Edwards and Ollie Wright are waiting in the wings and Next year i predict good things for them.

Here is a list of the highest partnerships for each wicket(lovingly compiled by Andy fowles)
