Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI v Long Melford II on Sat 29 Aug 2009 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 4 runs
Match report
A win against visiting Long Melford would all but gaurantee promotion so Bromley entered this game highly motivated.
A rare toss defeat but we were put into bat just the way we like it. Craig and Liam were looking for a repeat of last weeks heroics when they put on 273 but fell agonisingly 256 runs short!! Liam falling in the 2nd over off the bowling of Castle. Jake hung around for half an hour and 29 balls for his 7 the poor fella just cant find any form. Another out of form man entered in the shape of Rich but 2 hours later he had put to rest his demons with a fine 83. He put on 103 with Craig who made yet another half century this time he reached 74 and really opened up after passing 50 hitting three 6s before falling to J Burton. Louis fell for a duck but Jordan helped Rich along by adding 27 quick runs to trake the score to 191 with 10 overs to go everything was going to plan. Matt Wareing is having a good end to the season with bat at least and along with Pete helped Rich push the score to a final total of 242, a few short bearing in mind we had 227 after 40 but definately defendable.
With Billy away, Liam opened the bowling and 17 were taken from the first over.doh. 3 overs later and 18 came from Matt Wareings 2nd, 45 on the board and suddenly things were looking tricky. The carnage continued Until Burton J fell for a fluent 43, Matt Wareings reliable (!) hands taking the catch much to Liams relief. 89-1. Howlett joined Barnbrooke and it wasnt long before he joined in the fun, boundaries galore as Pete and Jake were unable stop stem the hemorage of runs. Matt Halsey bowled a good spell but it was the introduction of Skipper Louis that brought a much needed wicket, after conceding 17 from his first 2 overs he removed the impressive Barnbrooke for a destructive 105 that included 14 4s and 5 6s, at 185-2 in the 25th over Melford had the game by the scruff of the neck. 200 came and went without another wicket but Louis struck another important blow by removing Howlett for 43, two new batsman at the crease could Bromley assert some pressure. Bigg and Robirosa edged Melford ever closer and with plenty of overs to play with, No chance for Bromley surely? Champions though are made of Strong stuff, we werent giving in without a fight, the 4th wicket fell at 215 but Burton E helped Bigg push the score to 230 just 13 needed.Louis by now was bowling an inspired spell, his 6th 7th and 8th overs were all maidens, his 10th over would push the game Bromleys way first he had Bigg caught by Jordan then Castle edged behind to Craig. 230-6. Great bowling was followed by great captaincy as Liam was re-introduced and took 2 wickets in his first over 231-8. still 5 overs left 12 needed, make that 5 needed with 2.1 overs remaining, Budd attempting a quick single was run out to much jubilation from the home side. Could the final pair cross the line for Melford....... NO, 3 balls into the 44TH Over Liam bowled the no 11 and Bromley had recorded an amazing victory, a victory that lifts us into Division 5. We bowled poorly as a side today but captain marvel and some good batting from Rich and Craig saw us home. Now to Claim the title.
