Copford II v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI on Sat 27 Jun 2009 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 172 runs
Match report
On this sultry saturday, top of the table Gt Bromley (i just like saying that) travelled to third bottom Copford looking to avoid slipping on this potential banana skin. Fear not, once Copford had won the toss and put Bromley in (they didnt do their homework did they )we set about putting together another sizeable total. To be fair to Copford their bowling attack was by no means a weak one, Seagrove in particular bowling 10 tidy overs. Liam and Craig were not to be the stars this week, Liam departing for 17 and Craig, bored with all this batting lark, ran himself out for only 34! Louis, cautious early on, lost partners Tom and Simon cheaply but found an able accomplice in Jordan and it was these two that were the foundation of Bromley`s innings. Louis, helped by being dropped 6 times went on to make a fine 119, his highest score for the club. It was a real captains knock and he and Jordan, who made 65 put on 149 for the 5th wicket.Poor old Rich just cant find any form with the bat unable to survive 1 over that may have seen his average reach a positive figure rather than the minus 0.7 it currently is. lol. Bromleys innings completed at 265-6
In reply Copford`s openers put on 26 but once Sam sent Gould packing the wickets fell at regular intervals, the highest partnership being 30 for the 9th wicket. 7 bowlers were used, Sam and Liam sharing the first 6 wickets. Pete and Tom the other successful bowlers with 2 each. Tom taking his for 0 runs in 10 balls. Poor old Rich, trying his arm as a bowler he was unable gain an average here either with none for 12 from 3 comedy overs. Chin up mate!
The victory margin of 172 runs is our heaviest of the season to date and coupled with a defeat for Achilles means we are moving further clear at the top. Happy days
