Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI v Felixstowe II on Sat 20 Jun 2009 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 93 runs
Match report
Hello and welcome to the Craig and Liam show!
After writing much about this pair throughout this season i made a vow not to mention them unless they really deserved it this week and well i guess they did enough to a get a line or two!
Felixstowe 2s were the team we welcomed to Rectory Rd in a match that marked the half-way point in the 2 counties season. Felixstowe came into this game in great form having won their last four matches and having demolished DBSL the previous week in which they scored 364 runs and won by around 200. This promised to be a tasty game.
Win the toss and bat, thats the Bromley formula thats worked so well this year so why change it here. (here we go) Craig and Liam (yawn)opened the batting and 120 runs later Liam was out for 46, for once scoring more slowly than his partner. Louis joined his brother at the crease and 156 runs later Craig was out for 135, an almost unblemished innings bristling with aggressive strokes that included 22 fours and a 6. He is now in touching distance of the Div 6 record for most runs in a season and with 11 games to get them its surely a formality. Louis at last looks to be finding some form, his 77 here being his highest score this season and he looked in good touch by the end. Tom and Harry struck some nice shots to give Felixstowe a challenging 347 to chase. The visitors appeared a couple of seamers short of a good bowling outfit.
What they lacked in bowling they make up for in their top order batting. After Matt Wareing had nipped out Green early on, Heathcote, fresh from his 160 last week and Bennett got stuck into the Bromley attack although Harry bowled an excellent opening spell, particually troubling Heathcote with his pace and bounce. Matt, Nick and Pete were all seen off all at around 9 an over without ever bowling badly. Nick did pick up the wicket of Bennett as a consolation. Cresswell arrived and wasted no time in driving anything full and savaging anything short. Felixstowe approached halfway at 195 for 2 and looking good. Enter the Fish! Oh but 2 overs for 18 and nothing of what was to follow seemed likely. His 3rd over changed the game. First ball up he bowled Cresswell for 68, four balls later Heathcote smashed one in the air and Rich took a textbook catch, 2 balls later, following a wide Harry hung onto another skier for a 3rd wicket in the over. Game over as Felixstowe folded tamely all except for M Parker who refused to give up the ghost. Harry returned to pick up 3 deserved wickets and liam went on take 5 and the man of the match plaudits. Thats it im definately not going to mention them next week!!
Half-way and top of the league with plenty of players making contributions and two or 3 making match winning ones. more of the same in the second half please.
A foot note to this match, I dont think any players will have noticed but Craig turned his ankle early in his innings but being the trooper he is he carried manfully on and didnt like to mention it!!! Apparently though the ice he was applying later wasnt cold enough for his liking??
