Long Melford II v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI on Sat 13 Jun 2009 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 97 runs

Match report In a week that had plenty of rain and cool temperatures, Long Melford greeted Bromley on a glorious day, maybe the warmest of the summer to date? Despite the recent rain the pitch looked well prepared and on winning the toss Louis decided to make first use of it. Once again Craig And Liam opened and a familiar pattern was set, Craig watchful, `Fish` more adventureous.Desptie the fact that Liam likes to hit the ball in the air, he hits it so far that he rarely gives many chances. Craig prefers the more elegant approach and for me the shot of the day was a perfectly timed push off his legs that rushed to the boundary with a minimum of effort. Another century stand duly followed and when Liam fell for 65 the pair had put on 131 in less than 20 overs. As so oftens happens in cricket, after a long partnership when one batsman goes the other quickly follows and this was to be the case again with Craig falling once again to a slow bowler for 67.No panic, Bromley rebuilt with Simon and Jordan taking the attack to the hosts. Again these two have differing styles but they are both effective in their own way and Melford`s Skipper had no answer to it.That was until Slow left armer Maxim was introduced, he seemed gentle enough but his nagging line paid dividends as he slowly worked his way through the Bromley line-up on his way to a 5fer. nevertheless the visitors were well pleased with their total of 273-8.
The Long Melford reply got of to a good start with both openers playing some expansive shots to Nicks off-key bowling. Matt was bowling a good line from the opposite end but luck would have it that Nick made the breakthrough. A short ball top edged to Billy at deep square leg. To add insult to injury Nick then had Melfords Skipper caught by an amazing one handed catch by `trigger` Wareing off a disgusting delivery! Nicks third wicket was a much better ball swinging in to bowl a startled Underwood. Billy and Louis then shared accurate spells and three wickets to take the game way from the hosts. Liam then completed a good day by cleaning up the tail leaving Bromley thye victors by 97 runs.
