Match report With Bromley sitting 2nd in the league and Braintree 3rd both sides went into this game understanding the importance of victory to gain ground on the other and with the recent slip by Achilles there was even a small chance of going to the top of the table by the end of the day.
A much cooler day than of late but still a good looking wicket as the Bromley boys batted first.Once again Craig and Liam were looking to give their side a positive start and indeed Liam looked fluent from the off, hitting his first ball to the boundary.When liam was first out with the score on 55 he had made 36 from just 24 balls a typically agressive innings. Craig was being much more watchful infact he watched Louis,Jordan,Tom And Simon all come and go cheaply before falling himself for yet another half century in his impressive season. Bromley werent building partnerships and at 139-6 were in danger of falling well short of a competitive total.The ninth wicket pairing of Andy and Paul were to put on the second highest partnership of the innings (35)and make Gt Bromleys final total 194. Not bad but they had given Braintree 6 extra overs in which to get them.
`Gaffers` was to have a fine day though and the wicket he took in his first over was to set the tone. Although Vickery and Eveling repaired the early damage putting on 48 in 9 overs there was to be a collapse of major proportions as Braintree went from 50-1 to 73-6. Paul had taken five of the 6 to fall and was bowling with fluency. Braintree`s back was broken and further wickets fell at regular intervals, 2 for Louis, 1 for Pete and fantastic figures for Billy of 5.1 overs 2 wickets for 2 runs. Bromleys 20 points and another defeat for Achilles and we are sitting pretty at the top of Division 6. Sill a long way to go though.
