Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Lost by 82 runs

Match report
With Skipper and vice both missing from this game, stand in Captain Craig spent most of the week on the phone trying to get a side together as many other regulars were also unavailable. The side that took on top the table Achilles at Bourne Vale had no less than 7 under 19s and bore little resemblance to Bromleys regular side. Nonetheless the scoreline of this game doesnt tell the whole story and Bromleys youngsters can feel proud of their performances.
With much over night rain Craig chose to field first after winning the toss hoping his bowlers could extract any life in the pitch to make in-roads into the Achilles batting order. Unfortunately the pitch offered little assistance to the bowlers and Green and Mohan made serene progress putting on 110 before Andy Fowles struck aided by a sharp catch by The returning Jordan Read. After such a good start Achilles were to lose 3 more wickets in quick succession to fall to 128-4, Tom Rowe taking 2 in an over although Kumar refused to walk after hitting a return catch to the bowler???Thats out! Wright and captain Stockley set about repairing the innings and when Wright bizarrly tapped a return catch to the delighted Adam Cuthbert, Bowdler continued to consolidate.3 wickets in Nick Holymans final over, 1 a run out when he was on a hat-rick put e relistic tint on the final target after the Bromley bowlers hard work.
Bromleys reply suffered a setback when Read clipped a ball from Rouse to midwicket. This briught young Jack to the crease and he did an admirable job in partnering Craig and seeing off the new ball. If Bromley were to have any chance of winning the game then Craig would have to there at the end or at least near to it.Unforrtunately after looking comfortable against the quicks he fell again to a slower bowler. Wignall got one to turn and Craig was struck in front. Jacks innings finally came to an end after 76 minutes and 68 balls at the crease, he will surely gain a lot of confidence from surviving so long against top of the table bowlers. Tom Hit some big shots but Bromleys tail offered little resistance although they were to make Achilles bowl For 43 overs before claiming the victory and 20 points. Bromley can look at this game and hope that with a full side they can match the pace setters in the return fixture.
