Elmstead II v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI on Sat 02 May 2009 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won 79 runs
Match report
Great bromley 382-2 beat Elmstead 307-5 by 79 runs.
693 runs and only 7 wickets falling, that was the story of this amazing local derby on a record breaking day at Church Road.Selecting to bat first, Bromleys openers Craig and liam were soon into their stride scoring at 8 runs an over with Liam in particular punishing anything short or wide. Elmsteads young opening bowler Worseley coming in for some savage treatment.Liams half century came off only 28 balls. The pattern was now set and both batsman went on to complete their centuries.Fisher was first out for an 86 ball 132, the opening stand of 257 is a new Division 6 record and the first of three records broken on the day.Craig Perrin continued to bat majestically and with some help from Skipper Louis and Simon Prestney, Bromley set an impossing total of 386.
Surely Elmstead had little chance of chasing down such a huge total? At 5-4 with Nick Holyman and Matt Wareing taking two wickets each, Elmstead were really up against it. Enter M.Street and W.Dickinson. After several early scares both batsman started to up the scoring rate and put some pressure on the Bromley bowlers. Street was striking the ball cleanly and scoring boundries at will but Elmstead still needed 10 runs per over with 20 remaining.Weary from his batting efforts, Fisher joined the bowling attack and did enough to take the game away from Elmstead`s reach.Dickinson was finally out for 81 but not before he and Street had put on a 5th wicket stand of 299(another div 6 record)Street was to be undefeated for a fantastic 183 the third record of a day that he, Dickinson,Perrin and Fisher wont forget for some time. On a batters paradise, special mention should go to young Matt Wareing who recorded fine bowling figures of 2-40 from 9 overs of accurate swing bowling.
