Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI v DBSL on Sat 18 Apr 2009 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 120 runs
Match report
Despite the early start to the season it was a glorious day that awaited the two sides for this division 6 encounter.Louis perrin in his first game as skipper won the toss and decided to bat on a greenish wicket. Although this looked a dubious decision he was soon to be proved right as the two young openers Craig and Jake put on an exellent opening stand. In fact it took 35 overs to part them when Craig fell LBW to Downey with the score on 167. This was to be a match winning stand,14 year old Jake Foley continued merrily along only to fall agonisingly 3 runs short of what would have been a deserved century. Liam hit a quick-fire 45 to push the score to 261.
The DBSL reply started cautiously with openers Furmston And Higgs taking 17 overs to bring up the 50 but with wickets in hand Bromley knew they couldnt afford to be complacent.Paul Gaffney and Matt Wareing bowled tight opening spells without taking a wicket, New boy Nick Holyman was also without luck but the partnership was to be broken by a ill-judged single and an excellent piece of fielding to force a run out, Furmston the victim. For a while the run rate improved but the fall of the second wicket brought an end to the run chase and DBSL sought a damage limitation policy. This woked well with only 3 wickets down after 37 overs but a sudden slump saw Bromley sensing the 20 points. The last pair survived the last few balls and the innings finished at 141-9, Bromley comfortably winning by 120 runs, a good start to the new season, Especially for Craig and Jake.
