Kelvedon v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 14 Jun 2009 at 2pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Lost 125 runs
Match report
A hot and sunny afternoon at 2nd place Kelvedon was the fixture for sunday. After dreadful batting displays in the previous three games batting first, Pip won the toss and elected to field. Louis seemed the most excited by this "I love fielding" he chirped, as he rolled up his sleeves to top up the tan on his twiglet arms.
Kelvedon batted well throughout their innings but with wickets being taken at regular intervals the total always looked like it could be achievable. Matt Wareing bowled a tidy opening spell with his wicket coming from an ever dangerous long hop. Harry seemed to be doing his best to keep the umpires hands out of his pockets, as Craig was kept busy behind the stumps. However, when he got it right he was difficult to play and took two top order wickets in consecutive balls. Louis and Rob bowled well but the pick of the bowling was Pete Hibbins with 3-61. It was a very good 10 over spell in which he broke the main patnership of the innings by removing Warner (42). Despite bowling and fielding well Kelvedon posted 255-9. A tough chase.
Runs came at a reasonable pace but wickets fell consistently. Rich and Jordan went cheaply and although Craig (34) and Louis (17) played some nice shots, when they were dismissed the game was all but gone. Pip battled well and a handy last wicket stand in which Harry blasted a quick 16 saw us dismissed for 130.
A positive that came out of this game is a new tactic that Pip has been secretly developing over his five years in charge called fielder responsibility. This involves asking Pip where to field and the response being "go where you think he will hit the ball". By taking 3 out ogf the 6 catches Pip is leading by example with this revolutionary theory.
