Ardleigh v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Evening League on Tue 19 Jul 2011 at 6pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Lost by 10 runs

Match report Two major things were riding on this game for the GT. Bromley evening league side. One was to secure second place and another good season and two was to keep local pride against rivals Ardleigh. The answer to these will be found out during the report.
Off to a bad start losing the toss but things looked good when Halsey bowled Sage early on and kept his bowling very tight indeed. Adam with more pressure than anyone in this game was steady but loose balls meant he wasn't as economical as usual but still Bromley had the upper hand after the first 6 overs. Looking to slow the pace spin was brought on in the shape of Garnham, who struggled throughout the spell to find lengths and never really got settled in this harsh form of the game. Craig bowled some of his pies but got the much needed break through getting Chandler caught and bowled from a juicy half volley. Fisher bowled well only going for 5 runs in his two overs and really did deserve a wicket but unfortunately for him wasn't to be his lucky day. Adam Bird did get a wicket in the last over with Wareing taking a simple catch for which he didn't have to move, but looked sharp on camera, which hopefully the A-level assessors will enjoy!

With a target of 96 runs to win Bromley got off to an uncustomary slow start. Was this due to people looking for the batting award or just good bowling. The answer to that was slow bowling on a slow wicket and that equals very hard to hit! Bromley were never out of it but panic set in after the 3rd wicket went down and then a collapse was soon to follow as the set batsmen L. Perrin tried to take a two when the fielder didn't have to move and ran himself out. Wareing soon followed caught by Sage off a top edge and according to himself and his teammates was unfortunate to be caught as they said he can't even catch a cold! The rest then fell away trying hard but not staying there with the very capable batsmen of the younger Perrin who could have seen the game home with a partner, this though wasn't to be the case. When Bird was stumped the game was over, though according to Mrs. T. Wareing when it's 10 wickets down there is still another one to go!?
The answer to the earlier questions then was no second place is not secure until all games are complete next week and that Bromley didn't keep local pride and will have to wait to regain it.
