Abberton v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Evening League on Tue 10 May 2011 at 6pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report On a glorious summmer evening, the Bromley evening league team victorious in the Cup a couple of weeks before headed for abberton. The game started in a more somber mood with both teams observing in a minutes silence for Phil Allam who sadly passed away last week, a man who will be missed by all.

To the action and Bromley got off to a shakey start loosing early wickets of Matt Wake and Louis. Olly tried to steady the innings along side Jack but was caught off the bowling of Jonhson and Bromley looked extremly shakey. In the 6th over captain Matt joined the already settled Jack and they started to put on a flurry of runs, with jack resuming his form after a match winning batting display there last year! Unfortunately after an audacious attempt at a sweep shot Wareing was bolwed by an ex-colchester team mate in Savill. Jack soon followed and looked like the Bromley innings was going to come to a premature end. A family partnership in the Day's were solid as a rock and both looked in good touch, both being not out at the end and guiding Bromley to a respectable total of 104-6.

Needing to get off to a bright start the oppening pairing of Cuthbert and Halsey looked to gain the wickets of the Abberton oppening pair we knew could be dangerous. They both bolwed well but with no wickets falling. Olly who has been in fine form with bat and ball evetually breaking the partnership bowling Sawndon for 22. The pacey Wareing bought himself on at the other end and couldn't find a way through so bought on the golden arm of Mr Perrin, who lived up to his name and found a way to get the steady looking Lingard. Taking a gamble Jack come on and it proved to be a succesful on with some sharp bouncers and possibly the best disguised slower ball to be seen at Gt Bromley. He picked up a wicket in his second over but this couldn't halt the flow of runs and Abberton gained victory in the penaltimate over mainly thanks to a fluent innings from White.

So farewell to this game and a sad final farewell to Phil Allam.
