Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Evening League v Lloyds Bank on Tue 26 Apr 2011 at 6pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 23 runs

Match report The first evening league game of the season was a double header as it was the cup game that got rained off last year and was doubled up as a league game. Stand- in captain Rich won the toss and chose to bat. Bromley didn't get off to the best of starts with Louis showing the batting lessons paid off as he got a 3rd ball duck! Then came the normally solid Pip but he only mangaed to add 2 runs before being dismissed. Olly was holding the innings steady and got to a well played 20 before being bowled. Enter Rich. This was a match winning innings. He hit the ball all over the park playing some glorious strokes and hitting an unbeaten 53 with only eighteen scoring shots. The ever reliable Craig also added a much needed 32 to guide Bromley to a good total of 133 for 5.

Now it was the bowlers turn to do some damage. With Matt Halsey and Adam oppening the bowling, Bromley needed to get off to a good start against last seasons division 1 winners. Both oppening bowlers were tight and got early break throughs. Olly Wright and Liam Holyman come on to keep the ship steady but still needing to take wickets at regular intervals to halt the threat that Lloyds looked possible of. They done this brilliantly with both bowlers getting a wicket in there spells and with decent economy rates. Matt Halsey come back and again bowled excellently with his spot of line and length every ball and was rewarded with another wicket due to some quick hands from Craig to take the stumping. Bromley now where in the driving seat and injured captain turned scorer for the day was feeling reassured with some good fielding all round. Lloyds needed 36 to win from the last over and the older of the two Perrins was to bowl it. Even with most of his deliveries being half vollies or terribly disguised slower balls Bromley cruised to victory .

Bob Barrel had kindly umpired and a thank you to him. In the after match presentation he said that we are the first Div 2 side to win that cup, so now is the challenge to hold on to it for next season.
