Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI v Abberton II on Sat 03 Sep 2011 at 12:30pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 122 runs

Match report One of the warmest days of the Summer (although that doesn't take much) greeted us for our penultimate game of the season against strugglers Abberton.
With only 8 players able to start the game for us (Rich and Matt Wareing would arrive late)it was a big suprise when we were put into bat upon Abberton winning the toss. It soon became evident that our Visitors were playing to gain a few points to help their survival bid and not really going for the win. Fish and Craig simply love batting together and its happened all too infrequently this year but today they made hay while the sun shone. Liam has struggled for form this year but after a quiet start he soon found his feet and his old bat grip which apparently made all the difference! Trussler took the pain, 4 overs for 38 before being the first of four bowlers who came off aftrer short spells. The pair put on 167 in 27 overs before Fish was netted by Podgett. Louis and Rich continued to score at a healthy rate to help Craig acheive yet another 100.. He has been off-colur of late but today he gave himself a realistic chance of breaking the Div 5 batting record. 26 required from the last game of the season, its only a shame that my intention is to rotate the batting order for the final game! Someone called Matt Pirie batted at 5 not sure who he is but he and Nick finished the innings after Craig had finally departed for 122. Mittal deservedly taking 3 wickets from his 15 over spell.

Louis's Tesco tea wasn't as bad as expected in fact it was £50 well spent!

The legend that is 'Badger' Ball opened for Abberton, just 1 of their over 70's on show! 40 something Lance was too quick (!) for him though and sent him back with the help of his Zimmer for a duck. Barry Rudlin may be even older but he defiently withstood about 200 balls for his 48 before that Pirie bloke had him caught at Mid-wicket. Elson proved the only other batsman to offer sustained resistance but Abberton achieved their aim of reaching 3 batting points even though it took 42 overs for them to get half way towards the target set. Both sides will go away happy from the game which should help keep Abberton up and Send Lovely Brightlingsea down. Shame.
