Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Lost by 87 runs
Match report
Last weeks defeat at Mildenhall had been a major blow and there was a very flat feeling about the performance today. A second defeat to Mid-table Kelvedon just about sums up our season, too inconsistant and at times even sloppy. Losing the toss didnt help, the strip looked a road and the weather was warm enough to make it feel like a very long innings, Olly felt so after about 5 overs! Both Matt's bowled pretty well and Matt Halsey was to have the unluckiest of days, he beat the bat on many occasions and when he did find the edge it evaded a fielder and rushed to the boundary. Kelvedon's top 6 all made contributions but the highest individual score in their 229-7 was 41 by Schofield. Louis and Olly bowled tightly but louis might have missed a trick by leaving the slow bowling of Matt Foley, Jimmy or Andy until the 29th over with 2 batsman set. At that point Kelvedon were scoring at less than 4 an over as Craig kept reminding them but but they scored 117 in the last 16 overs (which is a lot more than 4 an over!) Matt Wareing picked up 4 wickets to pull clear at the top of the wicket taking league for Division 5 but dropped a simple catch off Poor Matt Bieber to complete a miserable time for bowler. The fielding standard dropped below what we expect of ourselves but the batsman in the side were still confident we could chase the 230 required.
Great Tea. The wasp was impressed!
Disaster struck in the 3rd over when Rich sent Craig back when a run was clearly on and Craig was stranded. Not the start we were after. Rich would need a big score to make amends. Matt Wareing didnt score well (not on the cricket pitch at least) making only 3 (2 off his favourite number) 25-2. Rich was not his normal self making only 8 of the first 41 scored and his misery was complete when he missed a ball that didnt get up from Shortridge and was bowled. Our chances were looking gloomy. Louis defended stoutly, his style of batting is changing but his effectiveness is growing with it. Olly hit one of the sweetest sixes you will ever see but it counted for little as he was bowled 2 balls later. Nick dug in as is his way and 10 overs passed but only 26 runs were added mostly for louis and the wides column before Nick thin edged playing a cut that was too close to the stumps. His innings was typical of the Bromley performance, off colour. Jimmy lasted 1 ball, Cliff 11 more but both got globes. Matt Foley lightened the mood with a fine boundary but that was his lot and Matt Halsey, poor fella hit a sweet shot but straight to a fielder for another duck. Louis by now knew the game was up but there was still time for him to reach a well deserved half-century to show that the best way to get through a lean time is to go back to basics and protect your wicket. Andy and Lou put on 29 for the 10th wicket before Louis topped edged a catch to bring proceedings to an end. Kelvedon must wonder how we are in 3rd place having now beaten us 3 times in a row but we must lift our heads for the remaining games and not let a disapointing season become a bad one.
