Mildenhall III v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI on Sat 23 Jul 2011 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickts

Match report Craig Perrin versus Ian Knight, Louis Perrin v Lou Handy, Matt Wake v Anyone! Some of our recent squabbles and today was very much in that vain with whinging Mildenhall todays opponents. It satrted in about the 4th Over when Nick turned down an LBW shout by Martin Kingdom, it was a close call with Nick deciding the ball had marginally pitched outside leg stump, Mr Kingdom senior threw a hissy fit, literally lying on his back and kicking his legs in the air! one of the outfielders shouted 'remember that decision boys' and they kept to their word, exactly like last year when Skipper Handy even had the gall to tell us in advance that he wasnt going to give us anything.
Craig and Rich opened after we were put in on a green wicket with a cool, damp feel to the day. In wasn't the easiest pitch to bat on but these two are in great form and made it look fairly comfortable. 112 was put on for the first wicket but by this time, slow bowlers were working in tandem and it was getting hard to get the ball away. Craig in particular was not picking up the ones. Rich, maybe feeling he had to kick on, edged a wide one from Chipchase to be the first of 4 wickets for the big man. Momentarily standing still in the dissapointment of not going on to another big score Rich began to trudge off but not before those chirpy chappies accused him of not walking. boys wwill be boys! Pip was next in...and then out again. not keen on the slow stuff is Pip. Unfortunately the openers good work was starting to be wasted as the Bromley wheels fell off the wagon. Liam, Louis and Matt all went cheaply, not able to find any pace in either the bowling or the pitch, these strokemakers all struggled. Maybe Olly coud bludgen a few? Craig was by now flowing a little more smoothly but when a full toss came his way he pulled it straight to deep mid-wicket. It may even have been a plan but im not going to give them the credit! Nick entered the fray and no sooner had he marked his guard than he had ran Olly out. Things werent going too well. Nick and Pete scratched together another 20 odd runs but 182 felt short of par, despite the pitch.

There was a do-it-yourself tea on offer today which was interesting. Nice bread.

I havent mentioned that Essex first II player Tymal Mills was playing againgst us today, thats probably because if i hadn't already known he was a first class cricketer id never have guessed it! He opened the batting and after playing and missing a few he played and missed again and his stumps were spread. Fish taking the prize. If that was good it wasn't anything on what happened next, Matt bowled a Harmison ball which beat the diving Perrin but not Rich at first slip, thinking it would, Taylor called for a run but Rich from a kneeling, off balance position, made a direct hit. brilliant stuff. There was a real buzz to the side at this point and Liam in particular was bowling very well, lord knows how many times he beat the bat? Matt was mixing the odd Jaffa up with some leg side balls, not at his best but still threatening. Giffin came in with aggresive intent and althouugh fortunate on the odd occasion, fortune favours the brave and Mildenhall recovered from their shaky start. They pushed the score onto 76 before Louis deceived Giffin with an excellent slower ball, thats right i did say 'excellent slower ball' hard to believe i know!! Hunt took over where Giffin left off striking the ball crisply. Clarke meanwhile was playng a studious innings, he looked the class act. It took the returning Matt Wareing to get him out, really well caught by Craig behind the stumps but the score was now 126 and Mildenhall were favourites. Matt Halsey, Pete and Matt Wake all had a bowl wihout much success and Liam was thrown back on as the last roll of the dice to aid Matty. It was not to be though despite Matt bowling a beauty to dislodge Hunt's off stump. Annoyingly Lou Handy saw his team home and in truth they deserved it. They out-batted and out-thought us. They are a good side and we have had some good battles, shame about the bad blood.
