Harwich & Dovercourt v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI on Sat 09 Jul 2011 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report Gt Bromley were looking to come back strongly after last weeks disasterous defeat to Brightlingsea but once again getting 11 players on the pitch proved difficult. At least we had Paul Wareing! Paul has never played cricket before and had to borrow some of Nicks whites, they may have been a little tight bit at least he looked the part.
Louis won the toss and put the home side in, it looked like a green seamer and so it was to prove. Harwich's batsman always seem to have aggressive intent but it hasn't served them too well against us before and today they showed very little application against some really good bowling. the first wicket fell at 14, louis taking a good catch to remove Newell from Matty's bowling. only 11 more runs were added as 4 more wickets fell. Matt bowling 4 consequetive maidens and taking four wickets, louis grabbing the other on a rare appearance as an opening bowler (I said we were short!) Harwich put on a couple of decent mid-innings partnerships as the experienced Moors was joined by the fortunate Felgate who somehow reached 25 despite the fact that he didnt know which end of the bat to hold. Carter, batting at 8 must have upset his captain or something because he looked just about the best batsman, he would prove to be their only bowler too but thats for later. Matt Halsey and RICH LAWSON (i put that in capitals so that you wouldnt miss it) took 2 wickets each as the innings succomed to 130 all out which we may have felt more than we should have given them from 25-5 but we would have taken it at the start. Paul Wareing's contributions; one attempted right foot trap which failed, one chase, pick up and throw. thats it but we were thrilled to have his esteemed presence!

With dark clouds on the horizon we needed to make short work of the chase and Rich and Craig got set quite quickly. Harwich tried 7 bowlers in the 28 overs it took for victory but Carter , who took the the solitary wicket (Rich for 24)and Semple were the only ones who looked likely too penetrate. The only real scare was that Craig and Matt W didnt get on with it quick enough and a downpour threatened to spoil our day with only 11 runs left to win. When the rain stopped diplomatic negotiations were being held between the skippers but Semple stood firm for half an hour to 'protect' his players. When finally the players did go back out Harwich were missing J king. I think he was still eating cake! Craig finished on 67 to take his seasons average past 100 and Matt Wareing topped a good day with another impressive knock, his Dad would have been proud if he hadn't have already gone home. His chase round the boundary had worn him out. Bless.

The Bightlingsea game was almost forgotten, except by me who will never forget it.
