Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI v Boxted on Sat 25 Jun 2011 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Our friends from Boxted were the visitors for todays match on a day that starting under grey skies but ended in warm sunshine, Gt Bromley were looking for their 5th straight win but Boxted are a tough nut to crack so no complacency would be warranted.

Louis won the toss again and inserted the visitors looking for a repeat of the bowling performance from the game at Boxted. New covers meant the pitch had been protected against some of the recent rain but it was still pretty green and in chilly conditions it was a good toss to win. Matt Wareings first over only conceded 1 run, a wide, which would be a common theme in this innings. Liam was Matts opening partner and he very quickly learnt not to bowl short on this pitch, 3 of his first 5 deliveries were cut by Evans to the boundary. Matt was bowling tight with the odd wide thrown in, Liams first 4 went for 27, Louis could have been tempted to give him a rest but he wisely showed faith as the odd ball was swinging late and it was one such ball that accounted for Evans, caught on the back foot L.B.W. Matt followed this with a Leg before wicket of his own, sending back Whybrow for 5. Matt finished his 7 over spell with figures of 1-18, 8 wides included. Louis and Fish bowled superbly in tandem 58 runs and 5 wickets were achieved in the 18 overs they bowled together, both bowling their best spells of the season, Liam bowled 15 overs straight through, his last going for 13 runs and spoiling his figures a little but 3-63 was a great effort. Jimmy Pirie bowled some of the slowest balls ever seen (im sure one nearly went backwards) but he picked up 2 wickets and with a bit of work his spin bowling could be a really useful addition to our attack. So 147 all out, 2 runs less than at their place but the 70 runs added for the last 3 wickets could prove costly as could the 43 (yes 43) extras we conceded, 30 being wides. Matt will have the words 'wide ball' ringing in his ears over night!

Mrs and Mrs Day's fantastic tea was a sight for sore eyes it's only a shame we had to go and play a second half. Oh my god those sticky sausages were good!!

I think Liam still had a cake in his hand as he went out to bat (He would be seen drinking a pint as he umpired later) Craig once again would be his partner. These two lovebirds havent been making beautiful music of late, their 100+ opening average seems a thing of the past, at least for the moment as Liam fell cheaply, edging a good ball from J Wilson. It still required a great one handed catch by Evans to seal the deal and it was a deja vu moment after the catch Harris pulled of in the first game. It wasnt the only similarity to occur as Khaira once again got the better of Craig, whose subdued innings of 22 ended when he hit his foot instead of the ball. schoolboy error that one Craigo! Matt Wareing, still smarting from a very rare off day with the ball was determined to make up for it with the bat and he did so in style, Easily out scoring Craig before his cameo ended on 42. 80-3 became 90-4 when Jack was run out or should i say walked out! louis nearly caught Jack up as he took a third run, Boxted having time to relay a throw in before Mitchell's direct hit finished the job. Nick joined Louis and just as in the first game a repair job was required. Boxted reminded us that this time there was no Lawson to bail us out but this time the skipper stood up and played the Captains knock. Nick's tactics was to try and bore the opposition into submission! He was boring Louis too by nicking the strike for 4 overs in a row but the 35 runs that were added in this stand put us well on the way to victory and with still 14 overs remaining Sam Day once again helped finish things off just like before. Louis finished 33 not out, worth 50 or more in the circumstances and Sam 13 n.o. Another hard fought success for a side who are beginning to gel at a vital time of the season.
