Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI v Frinton II on Sat 11 Jun 2011 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Frinton, our local rivals and one place above us at 2nd in Division 5, were the visitors to Rectory road in this much awaited clash. Frinton having only lost once in the league would be a real test of our recent revival.
Louis won the toss and opted to bowl on a greenish, recently used wicket. Frinton were missing Joe Hall, one half of a successful opening pair but otherwise full strength. We made our regular 5 changes but looked to have a well balanced side.
Matt Wareing and Matt Halsey (pronounced HALLsey) opened the bowling and once again Matt Wareing immediately hit his mark having Clement glove one for a simple catch to Craig. 0-1...oh Craig dropped it. doh! Rain came heavier at that point and we had a 15 minute stop to let Craig stew on his mistake. Would it be costly? Sinclair the other opener looked all at sea in the few balls he faced before Wareing had him chip one to safe hands (except off his own bowling) Fowles at mid off. 1 for 1, great start. Both bowlers were very tight and runs were hard to come by, In Matt Halsey's (pronounced HALLsey) 4th over, Williams flicked a ball off his legs straight to new Boy Steve Bennington, rather than take the easey option Steve dropped the ball duping Williams into considering a run, Steve arrowed the ball in and Halsey (pronou...) took off the bails. 11-2. When both bowlers had finished their spells they had kept Frinton down to just 2 runs per over, 3 of those runs came from harshly awarded wides that Captain Patel saw fit to give, much to Craigs disgust, Craigs first run in with the opposition of the day. Louis and Fish were the next bowlers and kept up the good work. Drinks were taken at 48 for 4, Liam having bagged both Bates and the prize scalp of Clement, who cannot resist a pull shot, even though he is crap at it. Louis jubilantly taking the catch. Young batsmen Stockdale(R) and Butcher looked to repair the damage. 'One shot' Stockdale did a good job until we cut it out with good field placings and he had to attempt a crossbatted swish which brought about his downfall, Liam taking a good catch. Butcher who had defended valiantly for 17 balls without troubling the scorers was next to go, playing all round a yorker. 67-6 and still at just over two runs an over, surely the best bowling performance to date but still there was more to come, Fish getting 'Mr Wide' caught by Louis. Our Skipper having by far the happier day. Matt Wareing returned to the attack and in his second over he took 2 wickets, both bowled, both making a mess of the stumps. 94-9. Young Jamie Baker looked a class apart from his colleagues and now realising that he would have to step on the pedal, he did just that, smashing Wareing for two huge sixes and followed it up with another one off Lance. In tandem with mini Stockdale, who was sporting the new Mothercare range of cricket clothing, they added 37 useful runs but a final total of 131 would surely be insufficient.

Mr Wareing put on a lovely tea, apparently Mrs W bought the crisps? Chocolate dipped strawberries.lush.

'One man team' Bromley came out to bat and Fish was soon to return to the pavillion as Lucas produced a good ball to send him back for a duck. Clement meanwhile was taking every opportunity to try and unsettle Craig with his 'witty' banter but Craigs way too good for that and along with Matt Wareing, who is fast becoming an allrounder, added 79 runs in just 13 overs adding more salt to the snails pace of the first innings. Matt made 44 before driving to mid-off from Frintons most effective bowler, Plant. Louis had 'a little bit of banter' with Clement whilst taking his team to within touching distance of the winning line before he cut mini Stockdale to backward point. Craig finished the job next over to complete a clinical 7 wicket win with 24 overs in hand. Frinton didnt take the defeat too well but they will be back, in fairness they had an off day rather than being a poor side and my guess is that both teams will be near the top of the table come the end of the season but for now we can enjoy this victory with 'a little bit of banter' in the bar.
