Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI v Maldon II on Sat 28 May 2011 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report At the end of last weeks match report i said that we needed to put all aspects of our game together and soon, Today we did.
A chilly blustery day welcomed Maldon 2nds to Great Bromley and a wicket that had taken some rain at last. Both captains were desperate to have a bowl, so much so that when the toss was called wrongly by the Maldon Skipper, Louis' cheer of 'NO, IT'S TAILS' could be heard from the changing rooms!
Matt Wareing , once again opened up along With Matt Halsey. Wareing beat the bat several times, pushing Coker so far onto the back foot that he took his stance from behind the stumps..well nearly. Both bowlers bowled a tight line and runs were hard to come by. 2 runs were particuarly hard to come by off a ball from Matt Halsey when there was only ever 1 there and Louis duly ran Morris out for an early strike. Both openers and Olly were unable to make a further breakthrough but Louis enticed Gozzett into a false drive and 'safe hands' Andy took the catch. Jimmy Pirie was making a comeback after 4 years away from Cricket and his fielding was excellent, clinging onto a mis hit drive to give Lou his 2nd wicket, luck, at last seemed to be going The Skips way. Lance then entered the fray and continued the disciplined bowling. The fielding too was putting pressure on the batsman. Wickets started to fall, again Andy clingling on to a catch off Lance. The Chairman then finally ended Cokers resistance for 45. 45 ugly runs! Enter Mr Fowles to sweep the tail, with a little help from Matt W and some good catching. Andy wasnt so keen to catch the ones off his own bowling though, Jug avoidance me thinks? Maldon had slipped to 124 all out, at last a consistent bowling and fielding display.

An amazing tea from one the Chairmans many handy contacts and we were ready for part 2.

Olly opened the batting with Craig and he was the only wicket to fall as Pip and the 'Little masters hot hands' (ask Craig) knocked off the runs with consumate ease. To be honest the bowling was terrible with a capital T but nevertheless the job still needed doing and it was done within 20 overs.A bit of sympathy must go to Maldons young Tashant Patel, by far their most effective bowler, after 2.3 overs which conceeded only 6 runs he strayed one down leg side which Pip guided to the un-manned fine leg boundary. His captain gave him a real going over. Next ball the nervous youngster did it again, four more runs. He was promptly taken off. Meanwhile the Captain bowled long hop after half volley, 4.5 overs for 33. Funny old game! Pip must think Division five is crap if this game is anything to go by but tougher tasks are ahead but we are back in winning ways
