Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI v Earls Colne on Sat 30 Apr 2011 at 1pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 77 runs
Match report
A bright and breezy day at Rectory road saw Earls Colne as the visitors for the first time in the Two Counties league, And what a nice bunch they were, even if they did umpire to one day International rules! The Perrins were back and Louis was back as captain, much to the disappointment of the players.ha ha. The toss was won and we batted. Craig and Liam re-united for the first time this season and it was like they had never been parted as they smoothly developed another century opening stand. Liam was first to 50, comfortably actually as Craig was still on 13. Nick brought about Liams departure, having umpired from the off, he took the chance for a comfort break and 3 balls into Jacks duties he had to give a stumping decision. Fish's 65 was a reserved innings for him but it was great to see him in the runs after last weeks Qwack! Louis came in and was looking solid (in his opionion) and he solidly made 3 in 26 minutes at the crease. Matt Wareing, playing as a batsman only today because of his ever so poorly toe, came in and provided good support for Craig, who by now was finding some fluency. These two took the score to 198 before Matt 7 ironed one back to the bowler for 32. 11 overs still remained and with plenty of wickets in hand we were building another good total. Olly was promoted up the order after some encouraging batting displays but today wasnt his day and he departed for 7. Craig by now was approaching his hundred, his levels of concentration quite remarkable, the bowling had been friendly but he once again showed what it takes to score big. His 100 came off 117 balls in 140 minutes. Nick and Jack kept the board ticking and Craig finally played a loose shot on 124 but was a little unlucky to chop on. The final score of 272-6, 1 more than last week and surely enough for another win?
Andys tea went down well and we were ready for part 2
Liam opened the bowling with Matt Halsey and Hamilton immediately showed his intent with big looking shots. None of them connected though and Matt cleaned him out for 5. 2 balls later and Unwin cut up-ishly only for Craig to take a good catch at the second attempt, Unwin 'Wined' all the way to the pavillion!! Fish piicked up his first wicket shortly after and the Colne boys were 34-3. Olly replaced Matt and bowled tidily picking up the wicket of opener Grice. When the 5th wicket went down at 81 Bromley were looking at an early finish but Smith and Oakley had other ideas, adding 80 frustrating runs. Andy was particularly pleased to see the back of Oakley who had punished his half trackers but his dismissal was a touch controversial, not because the ball was bordering on a waist high no-ball but because Craigs part time pies had got him! When the returning Matt had Smith excellently caught down leg side by Richard for 49, the Earls Colne innings crumbled but they made a respectable 195 and took 7 points. Bromley took another maximum and the encouraging start continues.
Editors note; Craig Perrin would like it known that he does'nt bowl pies but exquisitely deceptive off-spinners that turn viciously.
