Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI v Frinton ll on Sat 24 Jul 2010 at 1 pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 116 runs

Match report Local rivals Frinton were the visitors to Rectory road on Saturday and another stiff test for Bromley as recent good results had seen the coastal side rise to third in the league. Had the start of Rich Lawsons stag weekend had any lingering after effects on the boys. time would tell. Louis won the toss and opted to bat on another good looking pitch. Good looking it might have appeared but this one was playing some tricks, the odd ball died in the pitch whilst others sprang up high, if slowly. Liam did his best to get out as early as last week by spooning a simple catch to mid off in the first over, that is it would have been simple if the fielder could have moved more than 2 steps to his right in what seemed like 5 seconds but luckily for Fish the Frinton fielder was no Ricky Ponting more Ricky Tomlinson (JiM ROYLE- MY ARSE)That error was to sum up Frintons afternoon when it came to dropped catches, at least 5 more were to go down. The one they did catch was an exellent effort at backward point by Williams to get rid of Craig for a dissapointing 5. Louis, up the order to a more suitable no 3 and Liam cautiously saw off the opening bowlers, Oram returning good figures of 1 for 21 from 7 overs. From 40-1 from 12 to 80-1 from 18, suddenly the two batsmen started to find the ropes, Louis across the grass, Liam taking the aerial route. Both went on to 50 and were looking ominious when Liam came down the track to Lofty Stockdale and was stumped smartly by Clements. 112 the partnership added and Bromleys innings was looking healthy. Matt Wareing (much to Robs Disgust) was also promoted up the order and again it was a wise decision as he and Louis continued the rampage, although Matt was rampaging in singles, 17 of his first 20 scoring shots were 1`s, nevertheless he was playing the anchor to louis who by now was scoring at will. This pair added another 125 before Matt was bowled by Plant for 38, 256-3 with 2 and a half overs to go, time for a worked up Joe, not happy batting at 5 to go on a mission. Louis by now had made his first ton of the season and much deserved it was, even if he was dropped at least twice. From his final 25 deliveries faced he scored from 24 of them and it was a shame he got out to such a crap ball and even worse shot, rather than rapturous applause for his innings most people were laughing at his attempted `switch-hit`! Joking aside, the skippers innings of 134 was his beat ever and his return to form is welcome indeed . So just 10 balls left, Nick tickled a single fisrt ball and watched in admiration from the other end as Joe blasted his way to 35 not out in 14 balls that included 3 huge 6s. He did manage to run Nick out along the way but that was for comic effect as Rob Had to come out and not face a ball, again much to his disgust. 293-5 top effort.

After Mrs H`s tasty tarts and fruity cakes, Bromley were ready for action.

Chasing such a large target is always a tall order but Frinton were bouyed by the fact that they had chased down 270 only a couple of weeks beforehand. On that occasion Clements had carried his bat for an unbeaten century so Bromley knew his was the prize wicket. He and Skipper Patel started brightly scoring at 7 an over before Matt W bowled a Jaffa to clip Patels off bail. 35-1. Clements had pulled Matt Halsey 2 or 3 times through mid wicket but fatily tried it again even though by now Louis had set a field for the shot, he himself taking the catch to much joy all round. Wareing then bowled Bates for 3 and with Halsey finishing his spell, Mr Grumpy was brought on to bowl so that he could depart early for his Kitchen job at `The Fat Head`. Sadly it was`nt his day and no dought he had extra dishes to wash later in the evening!? Fortunately the wise old Chairman was next to bowl and along with Joe shared 7 wicket to wipe out Frintons resistance, both bowled well in their different styles and it was great to see one of the `old skool` in on the act. Frinton ended 116 runs short and comprehensively beaten, though clearly not a bad side they were no match for Bromley today.
Next to our `friends` at Achilles. Should be fun.
