Harwich and Dovercourt v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI on Sat 17 Jul 2010 at 1 pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 20 runs

Match report Oh i do like to be beside the seaside, even if its a craphole like Harwich! Gt Bromley have enjoyed their recent fixtures against their local rivals and today would be no exception, although this would one would be to close for comfort.
It was a warm day over 99.9% of Britain but still chilly in Harwich Ramsey Dovercourt Parkeston village. Nevertheless we usually bat first when winning the toss and thats what happened. Good`s first over was not so good and contained 3 wides and a long hop that Craig despatched for 4. The wides would be a bone of contention throughout the match. Skipper Rudkin bowled a tight over fron the bottom end and then after a further wide Good bowled a good one and Liam inexplicably left his leg stump uncovered and departed for 1 less than 1! Joe didnt last long either and at 17-2 Harwich smelt blood. Louis, out of touch of late dug in to support his brother and did a good job before being caught off the bowling of old stager Semple for 19. This brought in Rich who would be playing his last game before his enjoyable days would end forever, He is shortly to be married!! With this in mind he was determined to have one last hoorah and set about the Harwich trundlers with relish. His partnership with Craig put on 68, Rich scored 50 of those before he was bowled by Semple. Good luck in the next life Richard. (sorry Carly only joshing) Tom Rowe would also be playing his last game for a while due to his farming stuff, something about harvesting, never heard of it myself! He too would go out in style, in more ways than one. Craig was still acumilating runs in his meticulous way playing the anchor role once again. He was finally out in the 43rd over for a patient 79. 225 quickly became 247-5 as Tom and Nick made the most of some friendly bowling to set a testing target for the hosts who will no dought be annoyed with giving away 21 wides and 11 no balls. ALL FAIR.

After a hearty tea, Harwich set about their reply with relish. Joe, a makeshift opening bowler went for 23 off his 3 overs before being replaced by the skipper. Matt Halsey bowled 6 accurate overs and once again showed how line and length are the best policy. After putting on 61 in 12 overs without too much alarm suddenly Louis got one to pop and Eaton riffled one up to mid off where Nick took an amazing catch, no let me re-word that.. where Nick amazingly took a catch! King, who earlier had bowled like a drain then capped his day by offering a catch to Liam who gladly accepted. At this point Harwich decided they couldnt be bothered to fill in our scorebook anymore, instead they plotted to win the game by making disgraceful umpiring decisions, widing a ball from Liam that nearly hit off stump and then turning down the plumbest of plummy plumb lbws you will ever see, off Lance. It was great to see Liam and Lance in bowling action, Liam because has hardly bowled this season and we have missed him. Lance, because he`s chairman and i respect that!! Gary Moors was the main stay of the Harwich innings and while he was still there they were still in the game. Derek Wright bowled 3 overs for 18 and things were getting tense. Just when things were hotting up on the pitch, some welcome distraction occured off it. I say welcome, it was kind of funny, kind of sad, kind of Harwich. A local young lady was celebrating her 16th birthday by getting ratted in an abandoned back garden when their party overflowed onto the out field. After some polite exchanges the girl/woman/man decided to lie down for a bit and pratice her swear words, only one thing for it, superTom. Our gallant hero rescued the damsil in distress and carried her to safety where upon she offered him a huge hug and some drugs (i made that bit up). On with the game. Good was playing a good knock to support Moors and Harwich were closing in on the Bromley total. Rich then pulled off a test match bit of fielding to provent a six and it seemed to inspire the rest of the players as Tom took a good catch in the deep before Mooors was finally out, bowled by Louis for his 5th wicket. When Rudkin was stumped by Craig, again off Louis the game was up, Harwich falling 20 runs short. A good Win, a tasty atmosphere in very pleasent(!) surroundings.
