Abberton v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 1 pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets

Match report Four painful and unnecassary defeats in a row but Gt Bromley were boosted by the arrival of our new coach and worldly wise all rounder Rob Wareing! What with his pre match drills and positive thinking surely we would win this one? Abberton in conterst had won their last 4 so this would be a big test. Louis lost the toss (again) and Abberton batted on a glorious day and a good looking wicket. Robs pearls of wisdom must have rubbed off on brother Matt as he took his first wicket in about a year when cleaning out the dangerous White for a duck. Another of the Div 5 stodgy openers that we have seen so much of this season was here again in the Form of Gallant who edged, pushed and nurdled his way to exactly 50 and along with Brown and Ward got Abberton off to a solid start. Unfotunately I cant give you too many details of the first innings as Abberton couldnt be bothered to fill in our book, even though they had someone sitting next to the scorer for the whole 43.3 overs!! They have got an electric scoreboard though so that makes up for it!
Robs first 4 overs were great, that is if you like long hops and half volleys, He pulled it round though and found the sort of consistancy that he so often tells us about. The pick of the bowlers was Matt Halsey though, who took 2 for 21 from 6 well directed overs. Abberton will be a little disapointed with 213 with lots of their batters getting in but not going on.

The Bromley innings got off like a runaway train 52 off 5 overs with Liam looking in prime nick. His 40 off just 26 balls was a joy to watch and it was a big suprise when he missed a straight one. Joe kept up the run rate though in his usual swashbuckling way, today he was helped by using Nicks Quality Willow! When Joe departed for 60 the score was 145 - 3 off just 23 overs and we were strolling. If Joe and Liam`s innings had been fluent, Louis was quite the opposite, a little short of confidence he made Gallant look like Pieterson! He did hold up an end though and Bromley were edging towards a muchg needed victory. When Rich fell, Louis went shortly afterwards and in all took 70 balls for his 15. Have you heard of Chris Tavare Louis?! Never fear Rob was here. His time playing for Guilford uni 7th`s would surely pay off? 3 fours in 4 balls and indeed he did look good but what was that shot he got out to? Nick chose an exellent moment to get his first duck for the club and all of a sudden thoughts of last weeks defeat came flooding back, 188-8 still 26 still required.Matt Halsey looking petrified at the thought of having to go into bat again but any tension that there was was quickly quashed by Jack who, with 4 swishes of the bat ended the game. His final shot, a sraight 6 won the match, to much relief all round, Nick running on the pitch to give Jack a hug! So, a hard fought win against a good side, just what the doctor ordered and Rob.
