Match report
On the hottest day of the year so far the first task was to win the toss..job done. The second was to have a bat, let the bowlers put their feet up and make Boxted suffer...ah, that is unless your skipper and his younger sibling have tickets to see some nonce at the Ipswich Regent!! Thanks Louis, the Boxted batsman made hay while the sun shone. This wasnt the only Perrin gem of the day, before the match, in the dressing room Craig spotted a notice on the wall which said to `beware of the raised surface next to the artifial pitch`. `Can you be caught off that then?` now im only comprehensive school educated but i know thats the ground so No you numpty you cant!!. Back to the match, we needed early wickets and one nearly came fisrt ball when opening stodger i mean batsman Evans fended a short ball from Matty just over the head of Nick at Gully. Evans was in all sorts of trouble to Matt but survived and went on to make a very unattractive 47 whilst at the other end Rishworth looked a different propersition. He was enjoying himself, being particually savage on Billy. The opening Pair put on 147 but if Bromley thought they could make quick inroads they were wrong with Tongue and Rishworth Scoring at ease.Joe Sheekeys spell didnt last long, 4 balls in fact before a pulled hamstring sent to permanent gully, ironicly he was replaced by the `hamstring` injured Louis who hobbled in off his one good leg! Andy was tried but took some punishment before young Ollie finally managed to take some control, His spell of 1 for 25 off 5 was the least he deserved for an excellent effort. Khaird and Wilson hit 30 off the last 2 overs to rub Bromleys noses in the dirt still further.326 would take some beating, for all this the Bromley fielders (with the exception of Jordan) stuck to their task admirably, it could have been even worse.
This was a day for a big Craig innings, He has done it for us so many times before but sadly not today, it would be wrong to say that are chances went with him but our chances went with him!! Rich and Louis put on a worthy 77 at a good rate but when Jordan couldnt get started quickly enough the wheels fell off and the game slipped away. Matty Wareing and Jack showed glimpses of our future both batting well, Matt scoring a senior best of 62, the tail didnt wag infact they were as limp as Louis` wrists the score petering out at 232. A defeat by 94 runs. Jimmy Carr has a lot to answer for.
