Witham ll v Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Saturday XI on Sat 24 Apr 2010 at 1 pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 115 runs

Match report On the day when the mercury tipped 70 degrees farenheit(that`l confuse the under 25s) for the first time this summer, Bromley travelled to one of their favourite hunting grounds..Witham. Louis won the toss again and batted. For once a steady and uneventful opening few overs took us on to 18 after 5. Both Witham openers, Preston and skipper C Spence bowled acurately occasionally nipping one away. This was to be Joe`s downfall, Spence bowling a beauty that squared Joe up and followed it with another jaffa to clip the top of off.Great bowling. Louis took a while to settle and Craig was being Craig and after 13 gone we were not much more than 3 an over. Louis, though started to find the boundary and began to look like the player we know he is..average.ha. When he sent a short ball speeding through mid wicket it looked like we were set for some carnage. Unfortunately it was not to be, Preston getting reward for his hard toil. Jordan joined Craig and we were to enjoy a period of very fine batting indeed, 134 runs were put on in 20 overs, Jordan in particular playing some delicious, wristy cover drives, so well did he play that he caught and overtook Craig before falling for a 63 ball 83. Rich hit a scorching straight 6 but couldnt expand but by now Craig was moving up a gear or 3 and it was almost inevetable that he would reach his ton, yet another well judged innings of impeccable concentration. Matt W hit his first senior Mew i mean 6 and helped the score along to 278 for 5. That would take some getting.

Matt Wareing, with the extra couple of inches of growth, a pound or two more strength and a couple of years of experience behind him looks like developing into a bowler to be reckoned with. With Withams pitch a bit drier and Quicker than ours a week ago, Matt began with 3 succesive maidens, Billy backing him up well at the other end, Infact Bill was the first to strike bowling Jenkinson for 10.Matt was bowling too well to be denied though and his 5th over was a corker. A double wicket maiden, the first caught behind, the second caught fantasticly by Rich at slip,. Test match stuff. When the opening bowlers had done their bit Witham were on their knees at 34-5. Matt Halsey joined in, 45-6, Witham were now just looking forward to an early Shower, except they hadnt got any! Louis, though had other plans. Visiting time at Brentwood(posh) Hospital wasnt for another 2 hours so he introduced his trump card to keep the game alive. Nick. His comedy bowling keeping everyone amused for just enough time to keep Witham Dreaming and The Perrins occupied. The experienced John Chick and his captain put on 99 before order was restored, Joe Sheekey taking a cheeky 2 wickets and Oliie wrapped things up with his second ball for a comprehensive 115 run victory, 2 out of two in Div 5. Great stuff.
