Great Bromley and District Cricket Club 2nd XI v Kelvedon and Feering ll on Sat 17 Apr 2010 at 1 pm
Great Bromley and District Cricket Club Won by 89 runs
Match report
Lifes rarely dull playing cricket for Great Bromley, 3 overs into the new season and after Louis won the first toss up of the year we were 39 without loss. Five 4s, a 6, a wide, a no ball and 3 byes all came in that time. Kelvedon were never really to recover from this dodgy start and Bromley collected their first win in Division 5. Craig had a new opening partner for the game, infact a newcomer to the club in Joe Sheekey and he didnt take long make an impression, 20 balls infact were enough for him to raise his bat for the first half century of the campaign. He wasnt finished there! Craig, after last seasons heroics was looking forward to putting all his long hours in the nets at Loughborough to good use in this match but sadly the level 3 coaches have only taught him how to spoon a soft catch to cover, for a disapointing 18, back to the drawing board Craig. Still, it was more than big Bro scored, after promising not to play his favored sweep shot Louis did it fourth ball to score a boundary then fifth ball he repeated it but skied a catch to square leg. Jordan provided good support to Joe and the pair put on 96 before Jordan was out for 41. 180-3. Rob made a quickfire 20 but by this time Joe had moved serenily on to his hundred in just 55 balls. He wasnt finished there. Nick joined Joe at 220- 5 a healthy score with 18 overs left but when Joe finally fell for a superb, hard hitting, high hitting 142 we were in danger of not batting out our overs. By the way, Joe wasnt finished there! Andy (mallard) Fowles went for the first globe of the season. 249-7, still 12 overs to go. Nick and Billy brought relitive calm for a few overs before Nick went crazy with a sweet cover drive and Hard pulled six. What happened there? it was`nt to last but Billy and Ollie saw the total to a very healthy 303-8.
Kelvedon bowling had been, well how can i put it ... Shite, surely there batting was stronger. It was, Warner and Smith made a steady start before the forma went with the score at 33. Wilde was soon to follow when he feathered a catch to Craig, thats if you can feather a catch when you missed it bt a foot! There was a noise though and after all their umpire gave it!! Morrell arrived and he and Smith moved the score along to 50 before Smith was out. The run rate was too slow though with 15 overs already past, tight bowling from the Wareing Brothers, Rob shading the honours this time. Louis had new bat Shortridge well caught by Sheekey, the first of his 2 catches, he wasnt finished there. Unfortunately Louis then pulled up injured after putting maximum effort into his slower ball?? with his figures of 1 for 12 I think he was protecting his average. Long season skip! Talking of averages Nick took 2 for 28 a handy first return averaging 14, this though only tells half the story, what did i say about Kelvedons Bowling? Head up. Enter Joe as if the greedy git hadnt achieved enough on debut he only went and took 3 wickets as well to confirm victory. He was finished there. An overall thourghly deserved win with good batting, bowling and particually fielding effort. long way to go but a great start.
